Astros acquire Trey Mancini from Orioles in three-team deal

Mancini joins the top-place Astros and a host of players will be heading to Baltimore

The Baltimore Orioles have traded first baseman/outfielder Trey Mancini to the Houston Astros according the report by The Athletic.

Astros get: 1B/OF Trey Mancini, RHP Jayden Murray Orioles get: RHP Seth Johnson, RHP Chayce McDermott Rays get: OF Jose Siri

Mancini 30, 30, is batting .268/.347/.404 (114 OPS+) with 16 doubles 10 homers 41 RBI and 39 runs over this season's 92 games.

Mancini did not play in the 2020 season due to getting diagnosed with colon cancer but he will return back to major leagues by 2021.

Mancini hit 21 home runs during the regular season and made it to the finals of the Home Run Derby last year.

In the end Mancini's best year was in 2019, where Mancini hit 35 home runs and hit with 97 runs, while batting .291/.364/.535 that's an OPS of 134.

For the relationship to and the Astros, Yordan Alvarez has the DH position locked in and Mancini will move towards the outfield.

So for the moment it is expected that Mancini to see a significant portion of playing time in left field, while Chas McCormick as well as Jake Meyers are center.

There may also be games at first base, but man, 38, Yuli Gurriel is having a disappointing offensive season.

So, the decision to trade Mancini will not be a major surprise.
