Police release more details about fatal shooting of Elwood officer

A Elwood Police officer was killed to death on Sunday morning in the course of a traffic stop according to police from the Madison County Prosecutor's office and the Indiana State Police.

The identity of the officer hasn't been disclosed, pending the confirmation from relatives.

Andrew Hanna, chief deputy prosecutor, reported that Carl Roy Webb Boards II 42 years old, Anderson was made a suspect in the connection to the shooting.

Boards was taken into Hamilton County Jail. Hamilton County jail and will be charged with murder and an enhancement to the firearm as a repeat offenders, Hanna said.

Hanna said that the prosecutor's department is considering filing for the death penalty once the evidence has been scrutinized.

Boards has a long criminal history, including the conviction of 2006 of shooting a gun towards Indianapolis State Police officers.

The suspect exited the Buick and fired several shots, hitting police officers at minimum one time. The suspect fled on the spot with the Buick.

The officers of Elwood as well as Madison County found the wounded officer and treated him with life-saving measures until medical professionals arrived.
