Cleveland Browns Mailbag: How big of a jump can the pass defense take?

We have arrived at the first off-day for training camp players, but we are keeping the content train moving with another Mailbag.

We'll wrap up the week by discussing Demetric Felton, pass defense, and draft "steals" from last two years. We'll keep asking questions as we march through camp.

What was the Browns' defense against the pass? Will they improve this year? Fairmont WV Rob M. Everybody in the secondary believes that there is a lot of improvement.

S John Johnson III, and CB Greg Newsome II spoke up this week, saying they believe the group can be among the best in the league.

However, they also know that they will need to have good health as well as great seasons from everyone else to make this happen.

Newsome stated that "I believe that's our goal," on Day 1 training camp. On paper, I believe we can achieve that. But we must prove that we can every single game.

Last year, the Browns were the league's fifth-best pass defense and allowed just 202.3 yards per match. They only allowed more than 300 passing yards in two games last season

Joe Woods, the defensive coordinator, said that this is one of the most important areas he wants to see in his group's training camp.

Woods stated that "we greatly need to improve that since that is one the major categories you have to notice, if not, the most important category when it comes to winning games."

The group has the experience and chemistry necessary to succeed, except for that minor change.

Johnson stated, "I believe we've built these scars and healed from them." Johnson added, "Now we can put our feet to the gas pedal and get things moving."
