Elwood officer killed; suspect arrested after pursuit in Fishers

ISP reported that one of the drivers in the Buick was able to get out of the vehicle and fired several shots at an officer, for undetermined reasons. The officer was struck at least one time.

State Police are conducting an investigation following the shooting death that took place overnight by the Elwood Police officer.

A Elwood officers was wounded during a traffic stop . He passed away after being transported to the Indianapolis hospital. The officer's name hasn't been released.

The suspect who was shot was arrested on the night of his arrest in Hamilton County, where State Police stated that the pursuit culminated in a collision at Interstate 69 near 106th Street in Fishers.

WTHR's newsgathering partner at The Herald-Bulletin have reported that Carl Roy Webb Boards II 42, from Anderson was detained in connection to the shooting

Boards was transported into the Hamilton County jail and will be charged with murder using an enhancement to a firearm as a habitual offender as per Madison County Deputy Prosecutor Andrew Hanna.

Hanna said to that the Herald-Bulletin she believes the office of the prosecutor is considering applying for execution after the investigation is completed.

Boards has a long criminal history. He was convicted in 2006 of shooting a gun towards Indianapolis State Police officers.

Other charges he's faced throughout the years include battery using an extremely deadly weapon and resisting law enforcement. the possession of a firearm by an extremely violent criminal.
